About 'wesleyan university library'|News: Talk at Illinois Wesleyan University
Adrian, Michigan is a small mid-western town on the outskirts of Ann Arbor with a population of around 22,000 people. Quaint country living at its best, stroll downtown through the business district and visit some great shops and restaurants, then drive a little further and you are sure to experience cornfields and cow pastures. Hidden in the midst of this busy small town life, are two colleges and a university. Adrian is striving to bring the best education to rural America. Adrian College was founded by the Wesleyan Methodists in 1859, and today is home to over 1000 undergraduates. Ready to tackle your Liberal Arts education? The Adrian Bulldogs as they are called, offer over forty majors and pre-professional programs. Adrian College has several amenities on campus and close by to tailor to the student lifestyle. Adrian College hosts a new Arrington Bookstore on campus and is located conveniently on the second floor of the Caine Student Center. Used books are also available here so you can keep more money in your wallet. Worried about curving those late night appetites? The Ritchie Dining Hall on the main campus offers scrumptious meals, Chinese food, deli selections, ice cream and even specialty coffees. Sure to fit the most discriminating palettes. One unique attraction to the college is that it boasts its own planetarium and observatory. Seats tilt back and you can watch the stars and consolations move, while a friendly voice narrates nearby. This college campus offers not only affordable dorm style living but also apartments nearby to provide easy access to and from housing to campus. Adrian Manor Apartments nearby on Maple Ave. have one and two bedroom units starting at just $555 a month, and they are feline friendly, so bring Garfield with you! Alpha Tau Omega is the main brotherhood fraternity at Adrian College. Based on the motto "we make good people better" if you pass the pledging stage, given by these frat boys, you are well on the way to being a part of this small town family. Looking at utilizing your athletic capabilities? Adrian College has a new multi-sport stadium so more teams can play on campus. Sharpen your skates and bring the knee pads, test your skills at the ice arena, which is also open to the public. With the small class sizes, and hometown feel, students are drawn to Adrian College from across the globe to expand their educational horizons. Siena Heights University, a private Catholic Liberal arts school founded in 1919 was originally named St. Joseph College. In 1939, The Dominican Sisters later founded and renamed the school in honor of Catherine of Siena, a 14th century Dominican sister who devoted her life to persevere truth and social responsibility. Siena Heights University is a mammoth complex boasting five educational halls, a performing arts center, fieldhouse, library and chapel. The university boasts residence halls instead of the traditional dorms. Not to worry, there is plenty of room for conveniences and fun. A laundry center is available along with a cafeteria for your eating enjoyment. Did I mention fun? There are TV and entertainment areas, game rooms and even wireless internet is available. Grab your laptop and crack those essays! There is a brand new campus living facility which boasts private living areas and can house over 150 students. No need to hail a taxi, it is located just a small stroll down the street from campus. The Adrian Dominican Motherhouse is also connected to the campus, and sits on 100 acres of pristine, old-world looking architectural structures. Truly, a sight to see and relish. The University has many fraternity and sororities to choose from, whatever your interest, you will be sure to find a social brother or sisterhood to match. Jackson Community College is located on the northern end of the Adrian city limits, and offers a substantial curriculum. One of the newest programs being offered at JCC is the nursing program. Earn your associates degree and even transfer your credits to an accredited university! This college offers a bookstore called Efollet that surely will give you everything you need to stay sharpened for school. Ok, so what's available for all the college students outside of campus? The most important thing on the students mind has to be coffee? How will you be able to get through the day without that cup of joe? Big B coffee is a gourmet coffee shop located on north Main Street in Adrian. This coffee shop has everything for the coffee lover, from your traditional straight black to a frothy cappuccino. Try their yummy frozen treats like the Peanut Butter Cup Big Chill or the Mint Chip Freeze, with mini melt in your mouth chocolate chips. There's plenty of sweet goods there too, like homemade brownies and scones. Attached to Big B is a laundromat to drop off your dirty digs and most importantly, a tanning booth. You can always find time in between classes to squeeze in some rays!! A chain favorite making its way from up north in Canada is Tim Horton's. Tim Horton's specializes in baked goods and strong coffees. Everything is made fresh daily, so you know your donut will be crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. Coffee's always hot and they are open 24/7 so you have no excuses not to stay up and finish that paper. Ready for the nightlife? LA Cafe is located on the corner of US 223 and Maumee St. in Adrian, hosts a club geared toward college students. This club offers plenty of cutting edge top 40 music along with snacks and beverages so you can mix and mingle. Check for their scrolling marquee that boasts special cover charge specials for college night. The Adrian Mall is a favorite hotspot for college kids, not only for the yummy food court which has pizza, ice cream and fast food, but for the employment opportunities. Some of the stores in the mall attract teens and young adults, such as Aeropostale, American Eagle and Deb. The mall on south Main Street in Adrian is the perfect solution for that part-time job and conveniently located less than 2 miles from all three schools. Whether you are ready to settle into a few years of education at a college or just a couple of semesters, Adrian, Michigan boasts a variety of ways for you to get the biggest education you need all in a small town atmosphere. |
